IWSDS, the 11th International Workshop on Spoken Dialog System Technology, will be held in Madrid, Spain from May 18-20, 2020. IWSDS2020 is part of a conference series that brings together, on a yearly basis, international researchers working in the field of spoken dialog systems and associated technologies. It provides an international forum for the presentation of current research, applications, technological challenges, and discussions among researchers and industrialists. This year’s conference theme will be: Conversational Dialogue Systems for the Next Decade, being our target to discuss, propose and set the milestones of the dialog systems we will be designing and running for the following 10 years.

The program of IWSDS2020 includes three keynotes by renowned international research authorities: Prof. Zhou Yu from University of California Davis talking about Augment Intelligence with Multimodal Information, Prof. Rafael E. Banchs from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore & Intapp Inc. talking about New Evaluation Metrics for Dialogue, and Jason Weston from Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research Lab (FAIR) talking about Better dialogue generation systems.

In addition, IWSDS2020 includes four Special Sessions:

  1. Workshop on Chatbots and Conversational Agents and Dialogue Breakdown Detection Challenge (WOCHAT+DBDC)
  2. Designing humor in human computer interaction with focus on dialogue technology (HUMIC-DIAL 2020)
  3. Dialogue systems for mental e-health (eHealth)
  4. the Speech Language and Conversation Technologies for Iberian Languages (TLN).

Besides, we currently have the sponsorship and endorsement from the Special Group on Discourse and Dialogue (SIGDial), Chinese and Oriental Languages Information Processing Society (COLIPS), the International Speech and Communication Association (ISCA), European Language Resources Association(ELRA), as well as Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Vicomtech (Spain).

Finally, during the conference, participants will take advantage of Madrid’s historical and geographical situation, its rich entertainment, gastronomy, culture offering, and the warmness of its people that makes everyone feel at home; this way, we will be able not only to keep track of the state of the art in spoken dialog systems but also enjoying the attractiveness of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. From now on, we welcome you to Madrid and to IWSDS2020.
