The Language Resources and Evaluation Conference, LREC

The LREC conference has become a major event in the field of language engineering, and constitutes a milestone in the life of Human Language Technologies (HLT).

It is organised by ELDA on behalf of ELRA biennially with the support of institutions and organisations involved in HLT, and brings together a large number of people working and interested in HLT.

  • The first LREC conference and its satellite workshops were organised in May 1998 and took place in Granada (Spain), where more than 500 attendees coming from 38 countries met together.

  • The second edition was organised in Athens (Greece)in May 2000. More than 600 people attended the conferences and workshops.

  • In June 2002, LREC 2002 brought together over 715 members of the HLT community in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (Spain), attracted by the numerous different domains covered by the conference sessions and the workshops.

  • LREC 2004, the 4th edition of the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference was held in memory of Angel Martin Municio and Antonio Zampolli. LREC 2004, which took place in Lisbon (Portugal), attracted almost 1000 participants, coming from 50 countries from all the continents.

  • The 5th edition of LREC took place in Genoa (Italy) from 22th to 28th May 2006. The event attracted 800 participants.

  • The 6th edition took place in Marrakech (Morocco) from May 26th to June 1st, 2008. The event attracted 1100 participants. All information can be found on the conference web site.

  • The 7th edition took place in Valletta (Malta) from May 17th to May 23rd, 2010. The event attracted 1250 participants. All information can be found on the conference web site.

  • The 8th edition took place in Istanbul (Turkey) from May 21th to May 27th, 2012. The event attracted 1230 participants. All information can be found on the conference web site.
